The project process involved: 1) obtaining and modeling environmental constraints, 2) describing stakeholder opportunities, 3) establishing a method to assess trail impacts and trailhead benefits, 4) developing and evaluating a series of trail and trailhead locations, and 5) refining trail and trailhead design to minimize adverse impacts and maximize stakeholder opportunities.
We began our analysis with an aggregated set of existing, proposed, and informal STRAVA trails. The next step was to eliminate illogical or harmful trails and add any necessary connectors to the trail system. From the initial trails we eliminated over 100 and added several to connect our trail system. The remaining trails were then reprocessed in our model, yielding the following results:
